We are able to refer to local GP-based minor surgery providers for a variety of minor surgical procedures (e.g. excision of lumps, skin biopsies, cautery, joint injections).
Some patients require dressings for ulcers and wounds. The nurse will advise you when it is most appropriate to attend for a change of dressing. Treatment of minor cuts and wounds may also be undertaken.
These services are mainly performed by our nurse and healthcare assistant team.
The doctor who organises your test will tell you whether or not you need to fast over night.
If you have asked to provide urine or other specimens, please deliver them to the surgery in the mornings as many samples will become spoiled if they are delivered after our hospital collection has been made at lunchtime.
We offer a full range of family planning services including the pill, injections and coil (via referral) and other contraception services, advice on safe sex, confidential services for the under 16's, emergency contraception and referral for unwanted pregnancy under the 1967 Abortion Act.
Cervical screening is on a 3 yearly recall programme. We also recommend that all women over 50 participate in the national breast screening programme.
Patients who are taking warfarin and can come regularly to the surgery have the option of having their treatment monitored by the nurses here.
Please note - we are an accredited yellow fever vaccination centre
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below:
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
Travel Health Questionnaire
To help us offer the appropriate advice, please fill out the online form before coming to see the nurse.
Travelling in Europe
If you are travelling to Europe the EU has published useful information for travellers on the European website.
Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:
The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.
We also see patients on a private basis. This enables patients to book longer appointments (20 minutes minimum). We have access to a large variety of private hospital services, consultants and diagnostics at our disposal for urgent and routine problems. We are also able to perform private health checks and insurance reports.
To make an appointment to see our GPs privately, please contact reception.
